Teaching

Ensemble:
As Director of Steel Orchestras with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras Scott works with 1st - 12th grade students throughout the Chicagoland area. Scott also serves as a steelband instructor at William Hatch Elementary School teaching 4th grade steelband and associate faculty at the Birch Creek Percussion and Steelband camp where he works along side his colleagues Liam Teague and Yuko Asada to teach the kids about the history and potential of the steelpan through music. In his role with these various programs he can be found teaching, arranging, and playing percussion with the varying ensembles.
Masterclasses/Workshops/Presentations:
Scott's active teaching career does not stop in the classroom. He has also presented in a variety of settings including masterclasses, workshops and presentations. Working with students of all ages Scott has taught school assemblies, library masterclass/education series, and college lectures. These events have consisted of materials such as steelpan history, world percussion, teaching percussion to non percussionists, music in a non for profit world and more.
Private Lessons:
As an active private lesson instructor for over 15 years Scott has taught in a variety of settings including community programs, music stores, private in home lessons, virtual lessons, and lessons through his private studio. Through individualized plans for his students Scott helps them meet their personal performance goals. Scott works with students on drumset, classical percussion, mallet percussion, steelpan, hand percussion and more.
